Utställningen (som en fågel) är något jag sett fram emot då jag följt Magnus Thierfelders utveckling av nya verk under vintern och våren. Jag har tagit del av processen genom att få följa med i Thierfelders promenader, ibland på väg till något speciellt eller bara en runda runt kvarteret. Nu senast i Mexico City där vi förberedde presentationen till konstmässan Material och där några av verken som visas i (som en fågel) påbörjades.

Inför galleriets start var Magnus Thierfelder den första konstnär jag gjorde ateljébesök hos och han blev senare även den som öppnade den allra första utställningen på Nobelvägen 62 i Malmö, i januari 2005. Därefter har vi tillsammans haft en lång gemensam utveckling och jag har haft förmånen att följa ett mångbottnat konstnärsskap som fortsätter att utvecklas med en egensinnig nyfikenhet. Det har skett genom samtal och ömsesidig respekt.

Våra rörelser i staden och de rum vi befinner oss i är vad som manifesteras i Thierfelders konst. Men kanske inte de självklara vyerna, händelserna eller detaljerna. Han visar oss saker och företeelser som ofta glöms eller tas för självklara. Thierfelders seende och lyssnande läser av vår samtid.

Att röra sig i sina omgivningar, välkända och outforskade, är för Thierfelder en metod och ett aktivt iakttagande med en ständigt pågående analys och eftertanke om vår gemensamma tillvaro. Verken bör ses som kollage där hela vår omgivning och kunskap används som associationsyta. I kollagets natur samspelar realism med poesi och det är just här kraften finns, i skärningspunkten mellan drömmen och viljan. Skulpturala objekt, filmloopar och ögonblicksbilder lever i symbios.

Detaljer från världen utanför sugs in och passerar liksom igenom ett prisma för att benas upp och arrangeras i nya konstellationer inuti utställningen. Vårt samhälle speglas i detaljerna, vår tid i de val vi står inför. Utställningen (som en fågel) skapar då en rumslig väv där konstverken reflekterar över vår levda kunskap och förhållande till vår samtid och framtid.

The exhibition (like a bird) is something I've been looking forward to while following Magnus Thierfelder developing new works during this winter and spring. I've been part in this process by accompanying Thierfelder on his walks, sometimes on route to something specific or just a walk around the neighborhood. Most recently in Mexico City while preparing the presentation for Material Art Fair and where some of the works were born.

When starting up the gallery, Magnus Thierfelder was the first artist I visited in the studio and later on the one to inaugurate the very first exhibition that opened on Nobelvägen 62 in Malmö, in January 2005. Since then we've had a long joint development and I've had the privilege to follow a multilayered practice that keeps evolving with a wilful curiosity. It's a relationship that has unfolded through conversations and mutual respect.

Our movements within a city and the spaces we inhabit are manifested in Thierfelder's work. But perhaps not the obvious views, events or details. He picks up on things and occurrences often forgotten or taken for granted. Thierfelder's sight and listening is a reading of our time.

To move through one's surroundings, well-known or unexplored, is for Thierfelder a method and an active observation paired with a continuous analysis and reflection on our common existence. The works should thus be understood as collages that make use of our entire spectrum of associations and conceived knowledge. In the nature of the collage realism interplays with poetics and it's precisely here its strength lies, in the intersection between dream and desire. Sculptural objects, film loops and snap shots coexist in symbiosis.

Details from the world outside are sucked in and like passing through a prism they are refracted and rearranged into new constellations within the exhibition. Our world is mirrored in the details, our times in the choices we stand in front. The exhibition (like a bird) unfolds a spatial weave allowing the works to reflect on our lived experiences and the condition of our time and future.

Magnus Thierfelder, born in 1976, graduated from Malmö Art Academy in 2001. He lives and works in Malmö, Sweden.

Thierfelder's work Fountain was recently featured in the radio show Stil I P1, listen to the full program here. He is currently completing two public commissions in Knivsta and Växjö, Sweden, to be inaugurated later this year. Thierfelder will be part of the gallery presentation at Monopol during Stockholm Art Week, 11-14th of April
